Extemporaneous Debate

XDB is the newest KHSSL event and is great (and nerve-wracking) fun! KHSSL adopted the rules from the NSDA form of the event with one exception -- we do NOT allow outside help for the debaters during prep. Instead, XDBers follow the same rules as Extemporaneous Speaking for their prep time -- may research as needed, but only on their own.

Guidelines, Helpers, and other Assistances

To be honest, XDB is an event you basically do on your own -- from the time you get the topic until the first spoken word of the meet and onward. But this collection of materials from around the web might help!

NSDA's guide to the event.

Versy Talks is an online debate program with a pretty good guide to this event.

The Ohio Speech and Debate Association's video tutorial on the event. Good job, Buckeyes!
